Karun Mungai is an alternative R&B Musician/Songwriter based in Nairobi, Kenya. She is the first lady of Nairobi’s BET nominated hip hop group Camp Mulla and a Berklee College of Music alumni. She released two albums while working on a trhid one due later this year and got premiered by the internationally respected magazine FADER with her single «Need U the most».
Also part of the EA Wave collective that revolutionizes the East African arts scene. A self-proclaimed ‘sponge’ of different influences, Jinku fuses trap 808s, afro-house and downtempo beats with African percussion and almost anything else he can find, creating unique musical hybrids.
One of the most prominent Swiss artists of the moment emerging in the alternative electronic scene, Flexfab combines organic and delicate elements with his signature powerful electronic sounds. Having closely worked with his Swiss friend Hook (Muthoni the Drummer Queen), the producer has won several prizes and collaborated in FLEE’s last publication. With rich and numerous collaborations, Flexfab has just released his highly acclaimed new album, which includes collaborations with Batuk, the Venopian Solitude, Simpig and Rozzma. He recently concluded a tour in China and played iconic german festival Fusion for the first time in 2019.
Nairobi-based producer, DJ and field sound artist KMRU, is notable for making intelligent atmospheric and emotionally evocative electronic music. Already earmarked by Resident Advisor as one of ’15 East African Artists You Need To Hear’, KMRU is truly pioneering in the East African electronic music scene and breaking borders with his ambient sounds.
The FLEE project is happy to announce the first edition of its new art residency “Extra Muros” in East Africa that will be held from the 21st of August to the 08th of September 2019.
For two weeks and a half, ground-breaking artists from all around the world will collaborate with their East African counterparts. In a dedicated art space and studio, the creatives will exchange, create and work together in the heart of Nairobi.
During this time frame, conferences, live shows and interactive workshops will be held to discuss contemporary questions related to important global issues affecting the art sector as well as the creative industry (cultural appropriation; etc.), and favour exchange of best practises in music production for the participating artists.
